I refuse to be Bridezilla

Things are going well and thus no need to break out the sharp teeth or green leathery skin.
  • I'm almost done with the program and am working on a fun thing for the reception that I'm not yetready to reveal.
  • Favors are here and they look good, as well as bridesmaid and groomsman gifts.
  • The RSVP date is coming up and it looks like we'll be making a few calls, but no worries about too many people showing up. I think we'll be lucky if we make 50% of our invitees. Maybe it's due to the holiday weekend, but whatever the reason, it won't be too big.
  • Honeymoon reservations are taken care of. We are really splurging on our hotel in Arran, but as D points out, when are we going to do this again? (I said what about our second honeymoon, but it will be a few years before we can afford it...)
  • Centerpieces are a work in progress. I'm borrowing some things, buying some things, making some things...should look great, though.
  • Flowers are decided upon and paid for. Groovy.
  • Helpers are being chosen/delegated.
  • Pianist is located and music is chosen.
  • Readings are chosen.

Thank goodness school is over. Now I can devote the next 2 1/2 weeks to making the wedding as stress-free and beautiful as possible.

Sweet dreams are made of this

I can tell that I've accepted that the challenge of school is over for now. How do I know? Because I was sufficiently not worried about school, I had my first wedding-gone-wrong dream last night. These dreams happen to me whenever I am about to have a big change, or start something new. This time it was that the bridesmaids all showed up in the wrong fabric, but at least they were all the same, and I was able to shrug it off in dream-world. (Ladies, it was forest green velvet. This isn't a premonition, is it?) Seemingly a lesser problem, I dreamt that I was an hour late for my hair appointment. Strangely, this upset me more than the bridesmaid fabric mix-up. Don't ask me to explain, I just live here.

A teacher at school made our unity candle and tapers for us, and they are just gorgeous. She put one of the invitations on the front and added some white fabric flowers and clear glitter. I can't describe them properly, but they look beautiful.

I made it!

School is out for the summer. WOOHOO! I am still alive and so are all my students. It's over (for now, at least). I need to clean a lot of stuff out of here and I still have to come back tomorrow for a meeting/cleaning, but other than that, it's all good. Unfortunately, D isn't here to celebrate with me, he's out in LA on business until Thursday. Working really hard, too. When he gets back, we are headed to Wisconsin for the weekend to see his sister graduate from college.

Fun homeowner stuff'o'the week...
1. Fire code is there for a reason, folks (this addressed to the former homeowners). We were replacing two of our ceiling fans. One we managed without incident. The other one...well, let's just say that they ran the wires but didn't bother to install a wiring box. This means that we are not up to fire code (thank goodness we discovered it!) and must hire an electrician to go up in our attic and install a wiring box. There is loose pack insulation and you can't even see the ceiling joists, so if we go up there with our inexperienced selves, we are liable to put a foot through the ceiling.
2. I was changing out the hardware in the guest bathroom when I discovered that some moron used screws with little wings that expand when they get beyond the drywall. And what were these heavy-duty screws used for? To install the toilet paper holder. What the hell?!? So...now I can't get them out to install a different TP holder. Translation: I have to buy/borrow a bolt cutters to cut the darn things off plus spackle over and paint one of the holes that it created because the new holder doesn't have the same dimensions as the old one.

Conclusion: people are stupid and shouldn't take short cuts when making home improvements...especially ones that break the fire code. It's not fair to the people who are going to own the place. Grrr.
