Proof positive

Our photographer made my day yesterday.

We took in our proofs to give him our order as to which ones we wanted, and lo and behold, he told us that we get to keep ALL of them!! He didn't tell us this and we had to buy proofs when we had our engagement pictures done, so we just assumed that we would have to buy proofs if we wanted them. So...we put an 8x10 for each of my parents on the order since we aren't spending all that money on proofs. He was really surprised that we had so few pictures in our order, but we told him that just about everyone else will be ordering off the website. I think this is the first time he is doing the Web thing. That's a little incentive for him to get it up and running. :-) So, once we get our big proof book back, we are going to lay them all out, pick the ones we want, and divide up the rest among my mom, D's mom, and family and friends.

Happy Sock Puppet Assertiveness Day!

I should be preparing for school, but I am taking a little lunch break at the moment.

Signing out of Hotmail, I happened on a link and it took me here. (Warning: has sound.) Leave it to American Greetings to come up with the best holidays...although to their credit, the e-card is free and they're not milking this one for every cent it's worth. Which is probably about five.

So, let your sock puppet do the talking for you today! No more Mr. Nice Toes!

A Suzanne by any other name...

Will the name problems be better or worse this year? At least the new one can be written phonetically. Trust me, I tried to write the old one phonetically on occasion and it never worked. But when mispronounced, the new one rhymes with quite a nasty word. I'm going to write the phonetic pronunciation on the board and hope that the kids get it in their head the right way quickly.

Still, I'm glad I changed it. Once the kids get used to it, hopefully they won't think of it the other way again.

First day back for teachers is tomorrow. I'm here blogging instead of making a PowerPoint like I should be. Procrastination is an evil, evil habit, and I'll think about breaking it. Tomorrow.

Take that, Intelligent Design!

Wow.

This is really funny.

I think I need something with that graph on it. A mug perhaps.

That is all.

Reasons to welcome fall

I have to go back to school next week and the kiddies arrive early the following week. Don't think I'm quite ready for it, but there's not much choice, eh? Going back to school is always the start of fall for me, though the calendar may say differently. Therefore, to look on the bright side, here's what I'm looking forward to this fall:
  • Seeing my teacher friends again daily
  • Lower energy bills--AC is the gift of the gods, but it ain't cheap
  • The quiet that comes with getting up early (the one bright side of dragging my sorry butt out of bed at 5 am)
  • Getting to dress up more--it makes me feel pretty
  • The nice fall crispness in the air
  • New school supplies...mmm, the scent of new pens and pencils makes my geek-happiness-meter go way up
  • The fact that I no longer have an unpronounceable last name that will be used on a daily basis (just difficult to spell)
  • Wanting to cook and eat again--summer doesn't make me want to turn on the stove or the oven. What I really want is a salad, but we won't go there.

Things that I will miss about summer (well, summer since we got back)

  • Lots of alone time, doing things I love like reading and scrapbooking
  • Not wearing a watch, often not caring what time it is
  • Lots of D time
  • A clean house (finally it's mostly clean, and I just know it will get dirty again when school starts)

And so it begins, or soon anyway. I am trying my best to enjoy these last few days at the same time as getting ready for school.

Ethics test

How do you answer on this ethics test (unfortunately, I can't take credit, this was in my in-box yesterday).

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving a honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.

You are in Florida - Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster.

The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

Suddenly you see a man floundering in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer . . . somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It's George W. Bush! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under .... forever. You have two options -- you can save the life of G. W. Bush or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world's most powerful men. So here's the question, and please give an honest answer:

Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

(I'm thinking black and white.)
