Tornadoes

As you probably saw on the news last week, some tornadoes went through our area. Luckily, we are okay and so are our friends. There was extensive damage to buildings, though, and because of downed power lines etc., D didn't go to the university on Friday. Very scary. We went downstairs for a while just in case, took our weather radio with us.

I know I haven't written in a while. Since Spring Break, I've been really busy. I'm really getting fed up with my kids--I'm saying the same darn things to them day in and day out, and it's not getting through their thick skulls. Sometimes I want to ask them if they care about anyone but themselves, but I already know the answer.

Yesterday a student from last year came to see me. I remember him as a know-it-all, constant talker, loud, sometimes rude when corrected. Talking to him for a few minutes after school, I noticed that he seemed TONS more mature, calm, and collected. It reminded me that I am teaching 13-14 year olds, and most of them WILL grow up, even the most obnoxious ones. Plus, he did come back and see me, so hopefully he doesn't harbor too many deep-seated scars of his experience here. :-)

It's just very difficult dealing all day every day with people who are generally irrational and reactive instead of rational and proactive. I'm glad that I only have to do this for 32 more days before I get a break. Who says that teachers don't need summers off? Off with their heads!
