Geeky love

For Valentine's Day, we attended a performance of Romeo and Juliet with an interesting twist. All six cast members knew all the roles, and members of the audience drew names to see who would play which role. All of this resulted in a good performance, barring the male Juliet with graying hair. He just looked uncomfortable most of the time. Anyway, the poetry was still as beautiful as ever. I adore Shakespeare.

Anyway, on the drive home the conversation turned to who was playing which role, and both D and I were busy computing the number of possible different combinations (6! = 720 possibilities) and trying to figure out the likelihood that each show was completely unique in who played which role, and how often each actor was likely to repeat each role. Then I stopped and looked at him, commenting that only true geeks could turn a Shakespeare play into a lesson on combinatorics. Ahhh, love. Happy Valentine's Day!
